Getting to Know Me
I have always had a fascination with wood, especially exotic and unusual species. So, it was a natural for me to turn this interest into a hobby later in life. My imagination and perception led to the creation of original artworks and furniture with the “personality” of the wood as the focal point. I have been doing successful art shows around the country exhibiting my wood wall hangings and unique tables and benches. I was often asked by other artists, particularly painters, why I didn't try painting because I have such a good eye for color and composition. I didn’t really give it much thought until visiting an art store with my granddaughter, who was majoring in art at college. She kept pressing me to “buy some paint and canvases and give it a try.” That was then, and a few hundred paintings later here we are! Painting has become my passion. Having never been formally trained as an artist, I know I have some disadvantages, but there are real advantages too. I never starts a painting with preconceived ideas, so my mind is able to float free. Each piece is created to stimulate the mind and imagination of the viewer, leaving it open to individual interpretation. My greatest pleasure is creating paintings that other people will enjoy looking at as much as I enjoyed making them. Early mornings you can find me in my studio with all types of music playing, a cup of hot coffee in one hand and a paint brush in the other. Nothing is better than that!
